Blog — notes by Rostyslav Vishnevsky
The author's notes on the world of Tolus, writing books and the philosophy of stories.
I built the world of Tolus not as a map but as a feeling. The red sun came first, and gave its name to the whole world.
Kil is the eldest son of a warrior clan’s head. And yet a dealer in ancient weapons on an alien Earth. The whole book grew from that contradiction.
The clan’s boys are taught weapons and unarmed combat almost from their first steps.
I began this book in the Carpathians. We took the children to a small town ringed by mountains and forest.
The Heeding are the priest-mages of the Dargon clan. Their power lies not in lightning but in knowledge.
Beneath the fights and the magic hides the book’s central question: what do we owe our lineage — and what do we owe ourselves.
